Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30 points as the Oklahoma City Thunder crushed New Orleans 137-106 to become the only undefeated team in the NBA on Sunday after defeats by the San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls. The defending champion Thunder matched their 7-0 start to the 2024-25 season.

Thunder shines even with absences
Oklahoma City dominated the still-winless Pelicans despite three key absences. Point guard Luguentz Dort sat out due to illness, wing Chet Holmgren missed his third straight game with a back injury and All-Star Jalen Williams has yet to make his season debut following wrist surgery.
The Thunder made 56% of their shots, including 20 of 48 on three-pointers, keeping the offense strong with 33 assists. Aaron Wiggins contributed 15 points, while Cason Wallace and Isaiah Joe scored 13 each for Oklahoma City, which had eight players in double figures in scoring. Coach Mark Daigneault highlighted the team’s persistence:
“I thought the team showed great maturity because we weren’t hitting many shots at the beginning of the season, but we continued to improve the aspects that generate good opportunities,” he said.
“For me, it was more about the persistence we showed during a tough shooting stretch than how we played tonight in isolation.”

Spurs and Bulls defeats end unbeaten streak
The Spurs, who started 5-0 for the first time in franchise history, lost 130-118 to the Suns in Phoenix, where San Antonio’s French star Victor Wembanyama had a lackluster performance with just nine points.
The New York Knicks handed the Bulls their first loss of the season, winning 128-116 at Madison Square Garden.
Wembanyama suffers from Suns defense
San Antonio was riding high thanks to the dominance of Wembanyama, who before Sunday’s game was averaging more than 30 points and nearly 15 rebounds per game since returning from treatment for a blood clot that ended his previous season in February.
But he had a frustrating night against the Suns’ suffocating defense, running out of baskets until almost the end of the first half.
Wembanyama had nine rebounds, two assists, one steal, four blocks and six of the Spurs’ 14 turnovers, without going to the free throw line.
“Just playing collective defense,” Suns guard Ryan Dunn said. “He is a unique player, we made it difficult for him, we gave him different types of marking.”
Suns dominate and Knicks take revenge on Bulls
Stephon Castle led the Spurs with 26 points, but the Suns, led by Devin Booker’s 28 points and 13 assists, dominated with a 31-point first quarter and didn’t trail after the opening minutes. San Antonio was 31 points behind in the third quarter and 24 points behind at the start of the final period.
The Spurs responded with a 12-0 run in the final quarter, closing the gap to 14 points on a Wembanyama three with 6:24 left, but the Suns took the lead again.
In New York, Jalen Brunson scored 31 points, OG Anunoby added 21 and Karl-Anthony Towns contributed 20 points and 15 rebounds, helping the Knicks avenge Friday’s loss to the Bulls.
Australian point guard Josh Giddey had a triple-double with 23 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists for Chicago, which had started the season 5-0 for the first time since a 12-0 start in 1996 — the year they won the fifth of six titles with Michael Jordan.
