Sergio Perez recalled his last conversation with Christian Horner before leaving Red Bull at the end of the 2024 season. The driver said he thanked the then team boss and left a warning: “I’m sorry for whoever comes here, because it’s going to be expensive”.
The Mexican has not avoided talking about the reality of sharing the garage with Max Verstappen. For him, the current internal dynamics make it practically impossible for another driver to prosper while the Dutchman continues to influence the technical direction of the team and especially the development of the car. Perez stated that he shared this vision directly with Christian Horner at the time of farewell. First, he thanked us sincerely and then, he left a direct message.
The conversation that represented more than a simple goodbye, ended a cycle marked by the constant pressure that accompanies Red Bull’s second cockpit. It is important to highlight that Horner himself, who led the team during Perez’s turbulent period, ended up sidelined in the middle of the 2025 season.
Without a place on the grid this year, Perez secured a future with the new Cadillac team, which will make its debut in 2026. It is worth remembering that this Tuesday, December 2, Red Bull also confirmed its pairing for 2026 with Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar, while Yuki Tsunoda is expected to say goodbye to his seat in the team.
